About me

Hi, I’m Geli.

I used to turn wrenches on military aircraft, lead Marines, and test high-performance avionics in the aerospace and manufacturing world. These days, I help military families take control of their money while juggling life being a military spouse and father of three.

I volunteer as a Caseworker and Budget for Baby Lead with the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS). Which means, I help military families build confidence to take control of their finances. It isn't just numbers, its about survival, peace of mind, and financial stability.

From Maintenance to Budgets

Before hosting budgeting workshops and counseling military families through financial struggles, I spent over a decade maintaining and repairing complex mechanical systems:

  • In the Marines, I was a Fixed-Wing Aircraft Mechanic, maintaining and repairing Harrier Engines.

  • At SpaceX (yes the rocket company), I tested avionics through a series of environmental testing, including thermal and vibration tests.

  • At Air Products, I was a Turbomachinery Technician, inspecting and repairing high-performance rotating equipment.

Why does this matters? Honestly, it doesn't, it's just my back story. This is more so you can understand that I was part of the working class, I understand what it means to live paycheck to paycheck, and I know what it means to want something more secure for your family.

Accredited Financial Counselor® Candidate

Now-a-days I focus on financial education. I'm currently working toward becoming an Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC) and spend my time coaching families on things like:

  • Creating an accurate, realistic budget

  • Planning for baby expenses

  • Using the financial resources at their disposal

  • Creating and using emergency funds

  • Understanding and managing debt

This blog is partly a way for me to fill my experience hours, but more than that, it’s something I hope grows into a community. A place where like-minded people can connect, support each other, and grow together in personal finance.
